FOTOGRAFARE LA DANZA Laboratorio per fotografi – LEVEL A

Con Leonello Bertolucci Fotografo, photoeditor, giornalista, docente all’Istituto Italiano di Fotografia

e con Federicapaola Capecchi nella duplice veste di curatrice di fotografia e danzatrice

Con danzatori professionisti

La fotografia di danza è uno dei rami della fotografia di scena, ma per la danza occorre che il movimento, la coreografia, il corpo non siano sempre e necessariamente fermati in un fotogramma.

La foto di danza deve raccontare la danza stessa, la forza del corpo e del gesto in sé (decontestualizzato da drammaturgia, regia … che ovviamente la fotografia non ha spazio, tempo e modo di restituire). La danza è movimento, e lo si deve lasciare intendere attraverso lo scatto, è creazione continua di nuove e ulteriori forme, e le si può cogliere e restituire attraverso lo sguardo, prima ancora che l’occhio e l’obiettivo.

Sono molteplici le indicazioni e tecniche consigliate per fotografare la danza, come le famose “4 opportunità per immortalare la danza fotograficamente”: il mosso voluto, la congelazione del punto morto, la doppia esposizione, la sequenza.

In questo laboratorio vogliamo andare un po’ oltre a queste tecniche consigliate. Che spesso non riescono a restituire davvero il senso del movimento, il significato, il messaggio del gesto.  Vogliamo andare lontano dal congelamento della sola estetica e liberare il senso della danza.

​

Lavorare sulla percezione visiva e sulla memoria del movimento, sulla sincronizzazione del movimento e sulla visualizzazione, per esaminare la relazione tra l’occhio umano, la macchina fotografica, il corpo che gli è davanti in continuo movimento.

Il laboratorio è strutturato attraverso teoria e pratica, consigli, confronti e sperimentazioni.

Con Leonello Bertolucci, specializzato sulla foto di spettacolo si svolge la parte teorica e di tecnica fotografica.

​

Con Federicapaola Capecchi, nella sua duplice veste sia di curatrice di fotografia che di coreografa-danzatrice, proveremo a non guardare dal di fuori il movimento ma a esservi dentro, per poter poi saperlo restituire onesto e vero, in una fotografia di racconto e di senso e non in una fotografia puramente e inutilmente estetica.

Durante il laboratorio approfondiremo diverse tecniche di fotografia come di scrittura del movimento e coreografica, impareremo anche ad ascoltare la musica con i danzatori per trovare il ritmo/la predisposizione utile anche a cogliere un preciso momento per scattare la fotografia, anche senza conoscerne la coreografia.

La parte finale del Laboratorio prevede sia il lavoro di editing con Leonello Bertolucci, che una parte di valutazione/commento delle fotografie selezionate con Leonello Bertolucci e con Federicapaola Capecchi, sia da un punto di vista curatoriale che dal punto di vista del coreografo.

PHOTOGRAPHING THE DANCE Laboratory for photographers - LEVEL A

and with Federicapaola Capecchi in the dual role of curator of photography and dancer
With professional dancers 

​

Dance photography is one of the branches of scene photography, but for dance it is necessary that the movement, the choreography, the body are not always and necessarily stopped in a frame. The dance photo must tell the dance itself, the strength of the body and the gesture itself (decontextualized by dramaturgy, direction ... that obviously photography has no space, time and way to return). Dance is movement, and it must be understood through the shot, it is the continuous creation of new and further forms, and you can catch them and return them through the gaze, even before the eye and the objective. 

There are many indications and techniques recommended to photograph the dance, such as the famous "4 opportunities to immortalize the dance photographically": the desired movement, the freezing of the dead point, the double exposure, the sequence.

​

In this laboratory we want to go a little further than these recommended techniques. They often fail to really return the sense of movement, the meaning, the message of the gesture. We want to go away from the freezing of aesthetics alone and free the sense of dance.

​

Work on visual perception and motion memory, movement synchronization and visualization, to examine the relationship between the human eye, the camera, the body in front of it in continuous motion. The laboratory is structured through theory and practice, advice, comparisons and experiments.

​

With Leonello Bertolucci, specializing in the photo show takes place the theoretical and photographic technique.

​

With Federicapaola Capecchi, in her dual role as both curator of photography and choreographer-dancer, we will try not to look from outside the movement but to be inside, in order to be able to return it honest and true, in a sense and story photography and not in a purely and unnecessarily aesthetic photograph.

During the workshop we will delve into different techniques of photography such as movement writing and choreography, we will also learn to listen to music with dancers to find the rhythm/ predisposition also useful to capture a precise moment to take the picture, even without knowing the choreography.

The final part of the workshop includes both the editing work with Leonello Bertolucci, that a part of evaluation/ comment of the photographs selected with Leonello Bertolucci and Federicapaola Capecchi, both from a curatorial point of view and from the point of view of the choreographer.
